Sinus lift is a procedure used to compensate for bone loss in the upper jaw, specifically in the premolar and molar areas. It is performed in cases where there is insufficient bone or when the sinuses are too close to the jawbone for dental implant placement. Artificial bone is added between the jawbone and the sinuses to create enough space for the artificial bone. This increases the volume of available bone for implant placement. The procedure is painless and performed under local anesthesia.
After the procedure, a waiting period of 6-9 months is required for sufficient bone formation before proceeding with dental implant placement (referred to as a major sinus lift), unless an adequate amount of bone is already present, in which case dental implants can be placed together with the artificial bone during the procedure (referred to as a minor sinus lift).
